Park Board debates future projects

Bowling Green’s Park Board gathered the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 28 for their regular board meeting. The board was approached by BGPD Chief Don Wickenhauser for discussion of issues with the use of a board-sponsored vehicle. Members also heard presentations from representatives of the Missouri Parks and Recreation Association (MPRA).

As Chairman Steve Chismarich called the meeting to order at 5:34 p.m., all members but Kim Holmes were present. Holmes did arrive to the meeting later.

The board voted to approve the previous meeting minutes and opened the floor to discussion, along with Wickenhauser, of issues and concerns surrounding the use of the Park Board’s sponsored Tahoe, which is used by the BGPD.

Board member Floyd Dowell said that the way the issue was originally discussed, it was his understanding that the vehicle was only to be used for snow and emergency situations when certain locations cannot be reached with a normal cruiser. The BGPD chief countered that three supervisors are the only ones to use the vehicle, as the computer within the SUV is stocked with security equipment necessary in their role.

Several board members mentioned they had personally “seen it on every shift,” a point they didn’t agree with.
