Wellsville-Middletown no match for BG hard hitters
The Bowling Green Lady Cats defeated Wellsville-Middletown 11-1 in 5 innings last week. The match heated up in Bowling Green Tuesday night as the BGHS girls easily defended their territory.
“The girls have done good so far. But, as our team has been told, the enemy of great is good,” advised head coach Dean Streed. “What we mean by that is don’t be satisfied, when you’re satisfied you begin to coast and rather go through the motions.”
Streed’s Lady Cats refused to relinquish their lead after grabbing it early against the visiting Tigers. With six runs in the first three innings, Lady Cats left no doubt about the eventual outcome.
An RBI double by Michala Schroeder, an RBI single by Destiny Lindsay, a bunt RBI by Harli Lindsay, and an RBI double by Jessica Schindler during the first inning supplied the early offense for the Lady Cats.
Destiny Lindsay and Schroeder racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Lady Cats.
Ingram struck out 10 hitters en route to the Lady Cats win. Ingram allowed one earned run, three hits and one walk over five innings.
Bowling Green’s girls built up their lead with two runs in the third. A sacrifice fly scored Ingram to start the scoring in the inning. That was followed up by Breanna Bixby’s single, bringing home the younger Lindsay.
BGHS tacked on another four runs in the fourth. A double by Schroeder ignited the offense, scoring Madeline Kinkade. That was followed up by Destiny’s single, plating Schroeder and Alyssa Starks.
The girls in red and black scored one run on an RBI single by Schroeder, which completed the 10 run rule, in the fifth.
“… we want them to be hungry and think that our 11-3 record is not enough, we need to put more work in and work harder each day to get better,” Streed added.
“Don’t get me wrong I am pleased with the girls efforts and wins this season, but we also have three losses in which we beat ourselves,” he said. “We need to have focus 110 percent of the time, each pitch, each out, each inning to win the big games.”
