Churches to celebrate World Communion Sunday
On Sunday, Oct. 6 Bowling Green First Christian and New Harmony Christian Church of Curryville will unite for Sunday Worship at 10:45 a.m. at New Harmony in celebration of World Communion Sunday.
World Communion Sunday is celebrated by several denominations taking place on the first Sunday of every October. It is a day that promotes Christian unity and ecumenical cooperation.
The tradition originated in 1933 at Shadyside Presbyterian Church and in 1936 adopted throughout the Presbyterian Churches and later spread throughout other denominations.
The theme for this year’s World Communion Sunday for the two churches is “Breaking Bread with Strangers.”
Pastor Dawn Marie Turner will present the message with special music by Marion Branstetter.
The service will be followed by a carry-in luncheon that all are invited to attend.
