Phelps awarded NAM honor
Corporal Jordan Phelps was recently awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (NAM) for the role he played during an attack on Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, during Operation Enduring Freedom in September of 2012.
The award is given for meritorious service or achievement in a combat or non-combat situation based on sustained performance or specific achievement of a superlative nature.
Phelps was deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan last September, serving as aircraft rescue and firefighting crewman, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Within one week of arriving, Phelps was working at nearby Camp Bastion when it was attacked during the night of Sept. 14 and into the next morning.
