Haw Creek club learns about life in Africa
The Haw Creek Friendly Neighbors met at the Frankford Presbyterian Church for their Nov. 6 meeting. The 13 members and six guests were greeted by hostess Pauline Gibbs.
The tables were decorated with fall leaf table cloths with bags of Chex mix treats for everyone. She served turkey, dressing, gravy, hot rolls, pumpkin pie, and a grape dessert with the carry-in dishes brought by the members. Danny Epperson gave the noon blessing.
Frankie Epperson called the meeting to order in the absence of President Brenda Cook. The pledges to the flag and state were recited.
Gibbs introduced her guest speaker, Judy King, who gave an interesting, informative talk on her experience of living among the habitants of Togo and Kenya, Africa. How hard the women work to carry water, food and supplies in containers they make and carry on their heads and backs.
She had many items of material, clothing, crafts, bead, shell, leather and plant items they make to sell to tourists to make a living. Her mother, Dorothy King, told how she was treated like a queen everywhere she went while there. Judy King ended with questions and answers from the members.
Dorothy Flowers won the door prize. The devotion “Radiant is His Love” was given by Diane Miller. Roll call was a current event. The song was “The Happy Wanderer.” The minutes, treasury report, and thank you card from Gerry Davis for cancer surgery were read by Secretary Myrna Schuette. The Club Collect was recited. Secret Pal gifts were passed out.
Vice-President Leah Epperson read the agenda for the Christmas meeting to be held on Dec. 4 at the Presbyterian Church, hosted by Leah and Diane Miller. Danny Epperson called Bingo for the game with everyone winning two or three gifts. The grand winner of a golden horse shoe cross made by Danny going to Leah Epperson.
