Third place game boils down to seconds – Bobcats suffer three-point loss

The Bowling Green High School Bobcats battled back and forth against Fulton Saturday night, each vying for the third place title at Montgomery County’s tournament. Eventually turnovers told the tale, and the Bobcats fell 66-63.

“[I’m] proud of the effort,” said head coach Greg Williams. “Turnovers cost us the game, and we will practice to correct this.”

The Bobcats averaged about half-and-half on most of their shots; 56 percent on free throws and 51 percent on field goals. This, along with frequent turnovers, sealed the deal.

Senior Corey Brown led the Bobcats in points, making 27; Malik McPike followed with 14. Brown also had the best free throw average, making 80 percent of his shots.

The Bobcats got a total of 31 rebounds and only three blocks.

In the end, the Bobcats accepted an honorary fourth place in the tournament.

Bowling Green hit the court again this week, playing Highland Monday and Winfield Tuesday. These games will be covered in the Dec. 18 edition of the Bowling Green Times.
