Board of Education reviews building plans, audit results

The Bowling Green R-1 School District Board of Education gathered Monday night for their regular meeting to review weight room building proposals and conduct other business.

The consent agenda was approved unanimously, with the amendment to approve the retirement of Jackie Branstetter at the end of this school year.

In the financial summary, superintendent Darin Powell said the district is “right on track where we projected.”

Being no discussion in the public information forum, the board moved to old business to hear an update on the weight room addition. Powell made a suggestion that the district proceed with their plans on their own and advertise in the near future, after the first of the year, for contracting bids.

It was noted that the Board of Education filing dates for April 1, 2014 election are as follows: Filing opens – Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 8 a.m. and filing ends – Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 at 5 p.m.

The board heard and approved the 2012-2013 audit and report. They also approved the Bowling  Green R-I CSIP plan and an update of the 2014-2015 district  calendar.

Board members also unanimously approved two MSBA policy updates regarding board qualifications and reporting and investigating child abuse and neglect.

The board heard from a representative of StraightUp Solar regarding a lease  proposal for 2014-2015.

All reports from principals, directors, and the superintendent were approved.

Following this discussion, the board adjourned from open meeting to executive session per MoRS 610.021.

The board will meet for a work session Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. and again for their regular board meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 at 6:30 p.m.
