General committee reviews parks, recreation dept. plans
Bowling Green’s General Committee reviewed and debated some proposed Parks and Recreation Department plans and discussed an upcoming recycling drive last week during their regular meeting.
The Committee gathered at City Hall Thursday, Jan. 9 for their regular meeting. All aldermen but Mike Pugh were present.
Committee members heard reports from local officials. Bo Stinnett reported that Alliance battled last week’s snow storm and that everything went “fairly decent.” He noted a mechanical issue in one truck that was quickly resolved. Alliance still has some salt remaining, as they used mostly cinders for the recent storm.
There was no discussion from Mel Orf’s BICE report.
After reviewing the Parks and Recreation Department report, a few of the aldermen had questions. Dan Lang fielded these questions as Director Derrick Beanland was not present due to instructing a city-sponsored fitness class.
Kim Luebrecht asked if the city had requested bids on light fixtures for the walking path. Lang answered that they received a bid on installation, not the lights themselves.
Kenda Flynn asked for more specifics on the proposed “fitness stations” around the walking path. Lang said he would get with Beanland for more information.
