Commissioners issue No Burn Advisory

In light of several emergency calls last week on out of control brush fires, like the one pictured above on Pike 132 and “due to the extreme dryness”, on Friday, March 21, the Pike County Commission and the PCEMA has issued a “no burn advisory” in Pike County. A release from the commission stated that “failure to comply may result in personal liability for property damage or injury.” The advisory will be in place until further notice.

According to BGFD Chief Adam Mitalovich, the advisory is a good idea, as his department received 11 calls between March 11 and 23 for brush and field fires, a number which is “pretty high” compared to normal. The Chief credits the issues to high winds and low humidity, in addition to dry, dead vegetation.brush fire linda
