Area 4-H horse judging team competes at state
The Pike County 4-H horse judging team traveled to Columbia on March 15 to compete at
the state 4-H horse judging competition.
Competing were junior team members Katherine Dixon, Halle Roach, Kyle Homer, and Jessica Barnes. Jessica placed eighth in the individual top ten. The team placed fifth out of 16 teams, with 42 individuals competing in the junior division.
Katy Homer, Ally Grote, Kelsey Homer, and Lance Dixon competed in the senior division. They placed seventh out of 15 teams, with 56 in the individual senior division.
The junior and senior teams both judged 10 classes of horses in performance and halter confirmation.
Junior members were required to give a set of oral reasons in confirmation, but the senior members were asked to give oral reasons in a confirmation and a performance class in front of Kansas State University horse judging team members.
Classes of horses that were judged included Saddlebreds, Paints, Rocky Mountains, and Quarters.
Jody Homer and Jean Ledford are the co-leaders for Pike County 4-H Horse Judging. They accompanied the members to the state competition along with Dr. Annette Dixon and Lisa Barnes.
