School board announces new Superintendent – BGHS principal to step up
The Bowling Green R-1 Board of Education threw a curve ball last week as the announcement of the district’s new Superintendent was made official Friday.
J.W. Brandt, the current BGHS principal who announced his resignation from the position earlier this year after taking a teaching position at South Shelby, accepted the title last week. He was welcomed by Board President Scott Smith Friday.
According to Smith, Brandt was selected from the 18 applicants for his “familiarity with the district,” “good long-term vision,” and “keen interest in stability.” He says Brandt, the school board, and other district administrators hope to continue in their efforts of building a team and “marching in the same direction.”
Brandt says he is “really, really excited about it” and has set a goal of discovering a “common vision” he and his teachers can share and work towards.
While the new superintendent says he wants to touch base with the district’s teachers and administrators, he wants to continue “a lot of the good things that have been started in the last few years” and balance his “own views as an administrator and a parent.”
Brandt came to the Bowling Green school district last year from Salisbury.
