Bakers bond over demo derby love

To most, the idea of getting into a car wreck is the furthest thing imaginable from fun. To Jeremy Baker and his wife, Andrea, it’s that and more. In fact, this dynamic duo sets out to get into these accidents on purpose. Thus is the life of those on the demolition derby circuit.

It took just one, single ride in a demo car for Jeremy to fall in love with the sport. Andrea explained he rode with a friend in his car and decided he needed to try it.

“He was hooked from there,” she said. “He liked the adrenaline rush, plus he likes to do mechanic work and tear things up.”

Jeremy started derbying in 1997; he and Andrea started dating just a year later. Fortunately for the both of them, Andrea is a bit of an adrenaline junky herself.

“I love anything with a motor, so it didn’t bother me,” Andrea said of when she got involved in demos with Jeremy. “I think I loved the sport more than Jeremy.”

It’s that mutual love for the sport that has kept the couple immersed in the sport for the last 17 years.

Months of dedication & travel

While many people know demolition derbies simply from seeing them at their local county fair, the Bakers say the sport has taken them all over the Midwest.

The rest of Andrea and Jeremy’s story can be found inside the June 18 Bowling Green Times.
