The City’s Board of Aldermen held their monthly general committee meeting Monday evening, during which they debated a proposed increase in trash pickup costs and Heritage Festival.
Kenda Flynn called the meeting to order at 5:28 p.m., all members but Kim Luebrecht were present as of roll call.
In reports, Alliance’s Tony Sneed mentioned that the company’s filter rehab program was a big success, surpassing their goals. Mayor Don Hunter questioned the Alliance costs compared to Mark Twain Lake. Sneed did not know the exact figures, but said he would have the information for the next meeting.
Up next, city Building Inspection and Code Enforcement official Mel Orf said he had received a site plan for Taco Bell and that the restaurant plans to open within the year between August of 2014 and 2015.
Derick Beanland, the City’s Park and Recreation Director, stated the family night at the pool is this Friday, July 11, specifying that visitors 17 and under get in free and the cost for adults will be $1. He also noted that the Movie in the Park will be rescheduled, once again, for Aug. 2.
BGPD’s Don Nacke fielded questions from Mayor Hunter regarding loose dogs, Mark Bair on the office’s continued computer issues, and Ed Lawson on a counterfeiting report.
In City Administrator Dan Lang’s report, he noted that the ballot issue for transportation tax and the northeast district’s proposed projects have also been announced.
With nothing on the agenda for old business, the board moved forward to new business.
Following a brief discussion on closing the portions of Champ Clark Drive to the Square and from the Square to Science Street for the Heritage Festival, the committee moved to take the motion to full board.
