Community efforts make fair possible

With the Pike County Fair in full swing this week, it’s important to remember the efforts that make the event possible.

Not only does the Pike County Fair have the support of a fair board that’s more than 60 members strong, other local groups and members of the community pay their dues in volunteer hours to prepare for the week-long event.

Fair Board

Under the direction of president Vernon Korte, more than 60 individuals comprise the fair board and dedicate hours of volunteering in preparation for the marathon fair.

Each year the board does “general clean up and maintenance,” Korte said.

In addition, minor improvements are done year after year. For example, this year the board constructed a new building at the fairgrounds’ main entrance.

One annual ritual is sprucing up the grounds to maintain the level of quality fair-goers have come to expect from the Pike County fair, including painting the dozens of bleachers and picnic tables scattered around the grounds.
