Park Board selects projects, expenditures for upcoming year
The City’s Park Board advisory committee gathered last Wednesday for its regular meeting and to select projects for the upcoming fiscal year.
Chairman Steve Chismarich called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Other members present were Charlene Willis, Kim Holmes, Trisha Turner, and Craig Burnett.
The board approved the previous meeting’s minutes and heard from Michael Bryant with the Pike County Soccer League. Following Bryant’s presentation, the board voted to purchase a new set of goals and two sets of two benches for use by the league.
In the director’s report by Parks and Recreation Director Derick Beanland, he explained his department is hosting a movie in the park on Aug. 2 and mentioned a second family night at the city pool will be held Aug. 9.
Also in his report, he questioned how the board wanted to be recognized; whether as an advisory or independent board, as they have been in the past.
Beanland noted that he is compiling a program guide for the fall and winter, in hopes of drumming up more participation and expansion. He also encouraged the board to be proactive on fundraising and to participate in the board activities.
