Youth Fair cattle show highlights young showmen
The Pike County Youth Fair Cattle and Bucket Calf Show took place on Thursday, July 24. The evening began with the bucket calf class followed by the breeding stock and completed with the steer show.
The bucket calf class is judged mainly on the exhibitor’s knowledge and care of the animal. Austin Scherder exhibited the Champion Bucket Calf and his trophy was sponsored by Doris Twellman, CPA. Donni Reading showed the Reserve Champion Bucket Calf. Donni Reading was awarded the Bucket Calf Herdsman Award. The sponsor for the trophy chair was Rich Edmond Insurance.

Grand Champion Steer was shown by Kara Meyer, trophy sponsor was Bowling Green Lumber. Taylor McGaugh exhibited Reserve Grand Champion Steer. Storch Ford sponsored the trophy. George Niemeyer showed Champion Performance Steer with a trophy donated by Leslie P. Sheets. Reserve Champion Performance Steer was shown by Mikah Bange. In the Home Raised Steer Class, the steer must have been born and raised while owned by the exhibitor. Taylor McGaugh owned Champion Home Raised Steer and Peyton Sambo owned Reserve Champion Home Raised Steer. Taylor received a trophy sponsored by Keithley Hereford Farms.
Taking top honors in showmanship were Donni Reading in the junior division, Avery Hall in the intermediate division, and Kara Meyer in the senior division. Trophy sponsors were Pike County Mutual Insurance, Shaw Angus Farm, and Split Rail Animal Clinic. The Herdsman Award was presented to Kelsey Horner, trophy chair sponsored by Pike Feeds.
