Bowling Green Middle School will be hosting a 5 K Walk/Run to assist Bowling Green seventh grader Abbi Lucas and her family with ongoing medical expenses related to her cancer diagnosis. The money will go to a trust already set up for the family for those expenses. The 5 K will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 8 a.m. on the square in Bowling Green.
Registration forms are on the middle school website at www.bgschools.k12.mo.us, or may be picked up at the middle school office. Cost is $15 for participation and comes with a t-shirt.
Middle school principal Kim Pafford came up with the fund raiser idea.
“I ran the idea of a 5K past my secretary and counselor to see what they thought of hosting one to try and raise money for the family,” Pafford explained. “The more we talked, the more excited we got. We had several people volunteer immediately upon hearing about the idea.” Pafford said she plans to particpate in the 5 K – walking, not running.
“We expect a lot of school and community support,” Pafford mentioned. “We would like registrations turned in by Oct. 1, but they may register at the event. T-shirts are included in the registration fee. Those who register late, will have to receive their shirt at a later date.”
