Bobcats fall to Clopton/Elsberry
Friday night’s game marked the third loss in a row for the Bobcats to the Clopton/Elsberry Indian Hawks, 40-20 on their home field.
The Bowling Green Bobcats football team returned to their home field Friday night to take on the combined teams of Clopton and Elsberry and fell in a disappointing 40-20 loss.
They were coming off of two consecutive losses in the weeks prior. The most recent was to Wright City in an away game on Sept. 21, 26-21.
Friday night’s contest was played under a full moon. Bowling Green kicked off and had a touchback.
The Bobcats stopped the visitors in their first drive and took over with 8:40 left in the opening stanza on their own 46 yard line.
Corey Brown and Nathan Knieb were held to short yardage before a Bowling Green fumble was lost to the Indian Hawks at the 36 yard line. James Burleson stopped a pass attempt before the Indian Hawks were tagged with a 15-yard penalty. With six minutes left, Malik McPike intercepted a pass at Bowling Green’s 25 yard line, providing new hope for the Bobcats.
But the Bowling Green crew failed to gain a first down and the punt was downed in Indian Hawk’s territory. Delias Grimmett, and Brown both made strong tackles but the Indian Hawk moved to the Bobcats’ 32 yard line.
The Indian Hawks got their first touchdown of the night with 45 seconds left in the first quarter.
