Walking for a Cure

A large group of family and friends joined the Longs this Sunday in the Walk to Cure Diabetes in St. Louis.

It’s been nearly a year since Bowling Green residents Paul and Sheila Long found out their young son Rylan has Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).

Everyday since then has presented new challenges.  The young couple has avidly participated in fund raising efforts throughout the year for T1D research, including having a dunk tank at various festivals, a golf scramble, selling t-shirts and bracelets, and bringing in a full-size hot air balloon from Columbia this summer with proceeds from the tethered rides going to research.

Their most recent effort took place Sunday as the whole family participated in the annual St. Louis Walk to Cure Diabetes at the Upper Muny Lot in Forest Park.

See the front page of this week’s Times for the complete story.
