Amy Patterson – Ace Reporter

I’d like to introduce myself.

Many of you know me already, but for those of you that haven’t had the pleasure yet, my name is Amy. Amy (Gillum) Patterson. I’m honored to stake my claim as the Times’ new reporter/editor.

I am the daughter of Mike (BG class of ‘78) and Mary Beth (Brown) (BG class of ‘80) Gillum.

Yes, my dad is the one that many of you “older gentlemen” used to get in trouble with, and my mother is one of the renowned “Brown girls” of St. Clement. My parents own Outlaw Rodeo Productions, and produce the Pike County Fair rodeo.

This past May, I happily married Justin Patterson, my high school sweetheart. He is the  son of Jim Patterson (BG class of ‘73) and Dianne Patterson.

Most of the readers will know my other Pike county connections, as well:

My grandparents: Mary Bess Sanderson, and Elmer and Juliana Brown.

My aunts and uncles: Carol Lee and Jimmy Marshall, Mary Ann Nagel, Bill and Patti Crane, Martin and Janice Luebrecht, Jim Brown, Chris and Rita Brown, Jim and Melissa Millan, and Mike and Laurie Schuckenbrock.

As you might guess, I have too many cousins to name, and if I were to list Justin’s entire family, the column would be full. Many of them still live in the Bowling Green area.

I was born and raised in Columbia, and graduated from Rock Bridge, although I did attend both of the high schools in town.

After graduating, I studied at Truman State University in Kirksville and majored in English.

While I was in school, I participated in FFA, our school newspaper, and Truman’s equestrian team.

Justin and I currently have six (yes, six) horses, and three dogs. We stay busy during the summer going to rodeos.

I enjoy cooking, riding horses, spending time with my friends and family, bartending, and partaking in the finer things life has to offer (I’m open to suggestions on that one).

I am very happy to assume my roll here at the Times, and can’t wait to familiarize myself even more with our beloved Bowling Green.
