Opening weekend, deer harvest falls short

Missouri deer hunters welcomed opening weekend with open arms, bearing even with the unseasonably warm temperatures. It was those same weather changes that ultimately made the opening weekend harvest fall short from years past.

Rifle season for deer officially began Saturday, and hunters flocked to the Bowling Green area to take advantage of the impressive record hunting opportunities.

Local stores quickly ran out of key supplies, including ammunition, and the streets were clogged with hunters clambering to their posts.
