Richard Baker of Eolia, Missouri no longer had need for his 1998 GMC Sonoma pick-up truck. But rather than sell the truck and pocket the proceeds, he donated the truck to the Twin Pike Family YMCA. The non-profit organization in turn advertised the truck and was able to sell it quickly to a local resident. The sale generated $2,500 for the YMCA, which will go towards the Y’s current Phase Three fund drive to build the planned Aquatics Center.
“There are lots of ways area residents can contribute to the Phase III program, and Mr. Baker’s donation of a vehicle he no longer was using, but that would be of value to someone else, is a good example,” says Y Executive Director Marsha Garrison. She went on to explain that “The Twin Pike Family Y qualifies as a charitable organization. By donating the truck to the Y, Mr. Baker may be able to claim the sale price of the truck as a charitable contribution deduction for federal tax purposes. Best of all, his donation generated a much appreciated cash contribution towards what we need to build the indoor Aquatics Center!”
