Douglas Howery, 60, faces an upcoming Pike County court trial for the murder of his wife, Betty Ann Howery. She was 44 when she disappeared on Feb. 20, 1992.
Reporting authorities have said that, although originally a missing person case, they believe Howery killed his wife and dumped her remains in an abandoned septic tank on their family farm near the river in Annada, where her bones were found several years ago.
The suspect received charges of first-degree murder and has been jailed here in Pike County since his arrest in May of 2009.
Howery’s case has incurred several delays since his 2009 arrest: change of venue and for the death of his first attorney.
The process of jury selection for his Pike County trial began Monday. If convicted, Howery could receive the death penalty or be sentenced to life in prison.
It has been reported by his attorney that Howery maintains his innocence.
