Lonnie R. Skirvin, 67, of rural Kampsville, Ill. died Thursday evening, Nov. 29, 2012 in Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana.
Lonnie was born July 26, 1945 in Louisiana, a son of Charles Vinton and Frances Arlene Pritchett Skirvin. He married Faith Ann Stevenson on Feb. 10, 1973 in Orion, Ill. and she survives.
Lonnie was a 1964 graduate of Pleasant Hill High School. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, where he was critically injured in battle. As a result of those injuries, he was awarded with two Purple Hearts.
Lonnie was a member of the Kampsville American Legion Post 1083 and the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
He was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer and when he wasn’t working he enjoyed hunting and attending his grandchildren’s events.
Survivors include his wife, Faith A. Skirvin of rural Kampsville, Ill.; three children, Dena Skirvin of Pleasant Hill Ill., Craig (Ashley) Skirvin of rural Kampsville Ill., and Ann (Shawn) Harshman of rural Hamburg Ill.; six grandchildren, Sarah, Grace, Allyson, Adelyn, Ella and Landon; three sisters, Joan Myers of Louisiana, Ruth Ellen (Evert) Poyner of Pittsfield Ill., and Beverly Yokem of Quincy ll.; three brothers, Douglas (Dorothy) Skirvin of Clarksville, Larry (Kay) Skirvin of rural Pleasant Hill Ill., and Charles Skirvin, Jr. of rural Nebo Ill.; his father-in-law, Robert Stevenson of Orion Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Phyllis K. Skirvin, a son, Steven Ray Skirvin and mother-in-law, Emma Stevenson.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 3, at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church conducted by Pastor Sheila Kelly. Burial, with military honors, followed in Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.
Memorials may be made to the Crescent Heights Cemetery Association or to the Pleasant Hill First Responders.
