Several political figures have called the rolling hills of Pike County home over the years. One such figure was John Brooks Henderson. Henderson, a young Senator from Louisiana, Mo, has recently been pulled from the vaults of history and dubbed the Forgotten Emancipator by area playwright Brent Engel.
Engel the author of successful and historically accurate play regarding Champ Clark has now turned his focus to Henderson. Engel claims that, “Henderson wrote the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery and fought to support the effort in Congress.”
