The fall semester is always a very busy time of the year for the choir members at BGHS.
It all started on Sept. 15 as several students auditioned for the Northeast Mo. All-District Choir in Columbia. The audition consists of one vocal solo of contest nature as well as two sight-reading portions and key signature recognition.
Three students were selected. Sophomore Gaby Farabee made the Freshman/Sophomore choir and Seniors Emily Nosbush and Tim Hanley were selected to the Junior/Senior choir.
On Nov. 3 the students rehearsed all day and gave a concert at Hickman High School that evening. During the morning rehearsals over 80 Juniors and Seniors auditioned on a different musical piece selected by the Mo. Choral Directors Association . The scores they received from the first audition were added to the new audition piece and 16 students were selected to perform in the Missouri All-State choir. One of those students was Tim Hanley. Tim will have two, four-hour rehearsals with the rest of the Northeast group before they head to Tan-Tara in January to rehearse and perform with the remainder of the Mo. All-State Choir.
The first concert of 2012 was held on Oct. 18. Members from the BGHS Concert Choir, Freshman/Mixed Chorus, Middle School Select Choir and PRIDE sang to a standing room only crowd in the high school auditorium.
On Nov. 17 the EMO Conference performed at Silex high school. 21 Bowling Green Concert Choir members were among the other EMO schools who enjoyed a full day of rehearsals and a 7 p.m. concert for the public.
With only five weeks until the choirs were to present their Christmas concerts, it was a very busy time, not to mention Thanksgiving break as well as numerous other school activities that the students were involved in made each rehearsal very important.
After a successful and entertaining fall performance PRIDE set out to learn three new holiday selections as well as the choreography for each song. This required before school and Cat Time rehearsals almost every day. The outcome was again a success for the group as well as entertaining for the audience.
As the new year approaches things in the choir room don’t slow down as district music contest becomes the next main goal. Soloist will be looking for their two contest selections and ensembles must be selected and music picked out for them. Concert Choir will fine tune their sight-reading as well as to find the two songs that will hopefully bring home another I rating from the judges.
