Robert ‘Bob’ Hopke

Robert ‘Bob’ Clark Hopke,  84, of Ashley, passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at his residence.

Funeral services for were held Tuesday Jan. 22, 2013 at St. Clement Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Peckman officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Clement Cemetery.  Visitation was held from 4 p.m.  to  8 p.m. Monday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.

Mr. Hopke was born on June 5, 1928 in New Hartford, the son of Robert Cleo Sr. and Carrie Kelly White Hopke.  Robert grew up in the New Hartford area and lived in  Ashley  most all his life.

He married Earlean Theresa Bertke on Oct. 5, 1957 in St. Clement and she survives.

Other surviving family include daughter Marty Morrison and fiancée Len Scherder, of Bowling Green;  two stepsons Philip Morrison and wife Bette, of Herman, and Aubrey Morrison and wife Frances, of Bowling Green; brother Cleo Hopke Jr. and wife Bobbi, of Bowling Green; two sisters Louise Carroll, of Bowling Green, and Kathleen Watson and husband Henry, of Curryville; nine grandchildren Greg Morrison, Mona Pyatt, Marsha McGraw, Tara Eskew, Todd Morrison, Bret Morrison, Scott Morrison, Keith Morrison Philip Morrison Jr.;   24 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Karl, Wendell, Billy Jack and John Hopke; two great grandchildren Jordan Pyatt and Brandon Morrison.

Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1948- 1954 serving in the Korean War.  He worked as an equipment operator at Holcim and retired after 25 plus years.  He also was a self-employed carpenter and painter.  Robert was a member of the St. Clement Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #1928.  He served as a volunteer at the St. Clement School, Parish and St. Clement Cemetery where he was very active and served as a board member for many years.  He also served on the Ashley Planned Progress board and volunteered for many community service projects.  Robert enjoyed woodworking , gardening, but most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Greg Morrison, Todd Morrison, Daniel Morrison, Charles Hopke, Leonard Hopke, and Roger Colbert.  Honorary pallbearers were Larry A. Grote, Bret Morrison, Scott Morrison, Keith Morrison, Philip Morrison Jr., Donald Reese, Mel Meyer and Bill Unsell.

Memorials may be made to the St. Clement Cemetery or Pike County Home Health and Hospice.
