Local flag displayed at Missouri celebration

Marie Elizabeth Watkins Oliver, of Cape Girardeau, designed the first Missouri State flag in 1908; it was accepted state-wide five years later. One of the original Missouri flags is now proudly displayed at the Champ Clark house in Bowling Green.

The representatives from the Honey Shuck house were invited to attend the Centennial Celebration of the Missouri Flag, which was held Friday in Cape Girardeau. This invitation came with the condition that the flag come, too. Being one of the first official Missouri state flags produced, this honor was a no-brainer.
