John Deters elected Lions Club Governor
John Deters, a Bowling Green native, was recently appointed to an honor that very few local men have achieved. Deters was elected to serve as the Lions Club’s Second Vice District Governor, district 26-M3, for the 2013-2014 term.
Deters and wife Carol own Deters Sign Co. & T-Shirt Shoppe in Bowling Green, but even with that demanding schedule, he finds time to volunteer in the community.
The humanitarian has been a member of the Bowling Green Lions Club since March of 2004. Since his joining, Deters has held nine offices, including Lion Tamer, Tail Twister, and President. He has held and office title each year of his club membership.
With his election to the Second Vice District Governor, Deters’ district covers a 21-county area, ranging from Schuyler to Cooper and St. Charles counties. It will be in his duties to check, maintain, and lead the Lions Clubs within each of his allotted counties.
After complications following a surgery in 2001, Deters lost the hearing in his left ear. This ordeal has caused the Lions member to associate much more greatly with the Lions Club’s hearing and sight benefit programs.
Deters is following large footsteps, but feels privileged for the opportunity.
