The Mississippi River flood of 2013 is the fourth worst in recorded history for Pike County, according to National Weather Service records.
The river which rose swiftly after last week’s five inches of rain crested in Louisiana and Clarksville on Monday, April 22 and is expected to recede slowly.
The river hit 10 feet above flood level at its crest in both towns, causing southern Louisiana homes and businesses to flood. A major effort continued to save the historic downtown Clarksville as the Press-Journal went to press.
