Lawrence McElfresh

Lawrence J. McElfresh, 86, of rural Lebanon, died suddenly at his home April 17, 2013.

Lawrence (Mac) was the youngest of six children born to Guy and Faye Druse McElfresh. He was born in Pleasant Hill, Ill. on May 30, 1926. Later the family moved to Louisiana where he attended Louisiana High School.

He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served three years during World War II. After leaving the Navy and returning home to Missouri, he worked at the foundry, was manager of the Imperial gas station, and later worked for Hercules Inc. and Dyno Nobel, where he continued to work for 33 years until his retirement in 1991.

Lawrence married Patricia Pritchett Tophinke of Bowling Green on Oct. 26, 1979 at the Christian church in Louisiana. He was a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather.

His hobbies included gardening, landscaping and was a professional tinkerer who loved his gadgets. He was an avid K.C. Royals and Chiefs fan. He also loved and enjoyed his dogs Shadow and Bear.

He is survived by his wife, Pat of 33 years and two sons, Ron McElfresh of Honolulu, Hawaii and Darrell McElfresh of Edgemont, S.D.; and grandchildren, Andrea Weathersbee of Richardson, Texas, Joshua and Jonathan McElfresh of Honolulu, Hawaii and Michelle McElfresh of Louisiana. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen and Graig McElfresh; as well as his parents; three brothers, Earl, Maynard and Bill; and  two sisters Irma Cole and Edna Woodward.

His desire was to be cremated. A graveside memorial service will be held at Perry-Wells cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Ill., on May, 4 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Randall Cone will officiate.

He will be sadly missed by all family and friends.
