Silex FFA receives top award at State competition
Silex FFA placed 20th out of 331 chapters in the state, earning a Top Chapter Award at the 85th Missouri FFA Convention. Only 10 percent of state chapters receive a top chapter designation each year.
Chapter activity awards, sponsored by FCS Financial, are given to chapters achieving excellence in student, chapter and community development. The Silex FFA Chapter advisor is Stacy French.
The Silex FFA student development activities include members attending the National FFA Convention, Washington Leadership Conference, and the Learn, Educate, Advance, Develop (LEAD) Conference.
Chapter development activities are designed to promote excellence within the chapter. Silex FFA members raised money for the chapter through fruit sales and promoted the FFA program by giving presentations at the local middle school. They also manage the website for their chapter, send out newsletters, and put together a scrapbook.
Silex FFA community development activities include educating students about food systems and related agricultural issues. They also assist the Silex Elementary School with maintaining an Outdoor Classroom to develop more environmentally responsible individuals. Silex FFA members support the Silex Food Bank by providing food and financial donations.
The top chapters are submitted to the National FFA Organization where they compete for the National FFA Chapter Award. The competition will be this fall at the 86th National FFA Convention in Louisville.
The Missouri FFA has 25,062 members representing 331 chapters. The national organization has more than 550,000 members representing 7,489 local chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
