Leading all seven innings, the Bowling Green Bobcats sealed the deal Wednesday against the Elsberry Indians. The home team came back fighting in the bottom of the seventh, but it was no match for the Bobcats defense, who made the last out when Elsberry was just one run behind. Bowling Green stepped off the field with a final score of 9-8.
Jake Niemeyer and Alex Roy led the ‘Cats in hits, each making three. Darren Feldewerth, Austin Quarles, and Andrew Martinson were the only Bowling Green players to get to base on balls. David Goddard and Quarles were top players with RBIs, getting two each. Bowling Green’s Niemeyer and Goddard each tallied four quality at bats.
Senior Brian Moore pitched two innings for the Bobcats, with a 71.4 strike percentage, throwing 15 strikes of 21 total pitches. Corey Brown followed up, pitching the remaining five innings. Brown tallied a strike percentage of 64.4. Of his 90 total pitches, 58 were strikes. Moore pitched two hits and one strikeout. Brown pitched five hits, eight runs, two walks on hit-by-pitch, five strikeouts, and two home runs. Brown threw 13 first-pitch strikes to his 25 batters faced.
