Richard Brown

 

Richard Lee “Dick” Brown, 78, of Louisiana, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the Maple Grove Lodge Nursing Home in Louisiana.

A Graveside Memorial Gathering was held on Monday, May 13 at the Riverview Cemetery Pavilion in Louisiana.  Interment of the cremains will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana.

He was born Aug. 31, 1934 in Louisiana to James M. Brown and Georgia Hancox Brown.

Richard married Shirley Irvin on April 19, 1996 at St. Charles, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 19, 1999.

He is survived by two sons, Dr. James Brown and wife, Mary, and Shawn Richard Brown and fiancée, Debra Kay McGhee all of Albuquerque, N.M.; two granddaughters, Alex Brown and Jamie Brown both of Albuquerque; grandsons, Shawn Sutor, Charles Snider, James Snider, Arthur Snider, and Andrew Tucker; and one brother, Edgar Brown and wife, Sandra, of Racine, Wis.

He was a veteran serving with the United States Navy.  He had been employed as a safety manager for Hercules Chemical Company in Louisiana until his retirement.

Dick volunteered at the Louisiana Elementary School for thirteen years. He worked with many students over the years and took great pleasure in watching the students learn.

He put a strong emphasis on teaching that we are all winners as long as we have tried our hardest.  He would often say “The kids were the highlight of his day”.

He was the ombudsman for Maple Grove Lodge for several years. He enjoyed getting to know the residents, their families, as well as the employees.

Dick would interview the residents and was amazed at the history that would unfold during the interviews.  He was an avid reader and always had a good book close by.

His love of reading and his passion for learning gave him a wealth of knowledge that his family and friends truly enjoyed.  His favorite pastime was Photography and Model Railroading.
