As I am writing this, final preparations are being made for our students to be advancing to the next level, whether it be seniors who are graduating, eighth graders becoming freshmen or pre-K children anxiously awaiting the opportunity to begin their school years.
Best wishes for a bright and happy future to those who are taking the next step in life! The 2013 senior class is especially near and dear to my heart, as my daughter is in this group and I have know most of them for the past 12 years or more. I am excited and hopeful for this amazing group who will be our future leaders.
I want to take this opportunity to say “Thank you” to the students of Bowling Green R-1 School District as well as the staff for making our district awesome.
As we look forward to the upcoming school year, we will be implementing some fun and educational opportunities.
The Food Service department will be participating in the “Farm to School” program. In the past, we have enjoyed local grown, fresh produce during summer school, and beginning of the new school year.
The upcoming 2013-2014 school year, we will be implementing “Lucky Tray Day”. Students who purchase a complete meal may receive a special designated tray that will be eligible for a prize selection.
The recent changes to the National School Lunch Program have been confusing for students, parents and staff alike. At the elementary level, trays are served with all items. At the middle and high school levels, meal service is considered “Offer vs. Serve,” which allows students to select individual items to customize their tray; however, to be considered a reimbursable tray, it must contain a fruit or vegetable.
Students who receive lunch at free or reduced status must take a reimbursable tray or will it will be necessary to charge items individually at a la carte pricing.
Information on school lunches and reimbursements will be available at Bobcat Bonanza, scheduled for Aug. 13, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bowling Green High School.
The Summer Food Service Program will again be available to all student/children 18 and under. This will allow breakfast and/or lunch meals to be received free of charge.
The SFSP will operate at Bowling Green Elementary, June 3 through 28.

Thank you and have a great summer!
