Chamber of Commerce awards scholarships, finalizes funding at regular meeting
The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce met May 8 for their regular membership meeting. The board discussed several upcoming events and fundraisers, including the chamber’s park day, which has been subject to recent, exciting updates.
Being the first order of business as the meeting was called to begin, chamber president Chad Perkins called upon several present BGHS students for their presentation of scholarships. Those awarded Chamber of Commerce scholarships were seniors Haley Kirk, Tara Farris, Brian Moore, and Shanion Brown.
No discussion was presented with the budget finance update, although the board mentioned a recent Wal-Mart donation for a chamber event.
New business included a possible new member to the chamber: Holly Scherder with Farm Bureau.
The chamber’s May newsletter was sent out last week, and those that had recommendations or requests for the June newsletter should be forwarded to the board.
The Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a fun Park Day event in June for community members to enjoy. Board members noted that the chamber receives much support from the community and their participating businesses, and are constantly looking for ways to show this appreciation and give back.
The Park Day event will include carnival rides, a train, and many tasty snacks. The city of Bowling Green will be hosting a movie in the park, Rise of the Guardians, in conjunction with the event at dusk.
The chamber will also be hosting a golf tournament this summer, and are in the preliminary organization stages, gathering rules and regulations from the course.
Two AT&T representatives were introduced and gave a presentation of several products that can aid and assist business owners on the go.
With no further business to be discussed, the meeting was called to a close just after 12:30 p.m.
