We asked, and you commented. Last week, the Bowling Green Times asked its Facebook followers what they think about disciplinary regulations within the school system. Here are some of your answers…
What a week(+) of controversy it has been! First Paula Deen is cut from several of her brands and contracts after a remark she made decades ago is brought up in a lawsuit, now the St. Louis Cardinals are under fire because there’s a cross drawn in the dirt on the pitcher’s mound.
We want to know!—What do you think? Are these situations blown out of proportion? Is the frustration by nay-sayers supported?
“i think it is absurd the cardinals are under fire!! if as a country our biggest concern is someone scratching a cross onto the backside of the pitchers mound then america is worse off than we can imagine! freedom of religion is still a fundamental human right, if the next pitcher didnt want it on there, he could have simply drug his foot over it..problem solved. go feed a hungry person or spend a day serving the greater good instead of picking apart a simple act of faith.” – Shellie Cunningham Ligon
“Both situations are blown completely out of proportion. I feel there are too many things in this country that are falling through right now that we should be focusing on and this is just the smoke that the media and news outlets are throwing up to cover what is really important.” – Jennifer White
“it’s all blown out of proportion…..drama…..drama…..drama….some people thrive on drama…it’s their entire life….use ur energy on some of Shellie’s comments….” – Christy Dotson
“Who in the world would make an issue over the Cross?? “One Nation Under God”…maybe you shouldn’t live here in America if you have a problem with that.” – Beth Stevens Gibson
“I got a plan ship all that our trying to bring down the united states to mars were they belong!” – Kevin Wayne Hill
“Racism, Semitism, The tails wagging the dog here! A people who are by their own words declaring they are at war with our country, yet they build mosques all over our nation. Do you know what that symbolizes to them? They say it shows that they own this area, and Christianity will be crushed at all costs. Living for God is more and more being obliterated, both in our news media, and in our schools. How long will we “shake hands with satan”, until there is no turning back? WE MUST TAKE AMERICA BACK!!! Without making a stand, we cease to exist! Racism, listen to sound bytes coming from our “Commander and Chief”, then we’ll talk more about it. “Black Power” has not gone away either. If we give it all away, we should’ve never had it in the first place. Talk to me.” – Kevin Sam Elliott Stewart
“She admitted one incident, that doesn’t mean she is telling the truth. The lawsuit is about things that happened currently. The testimony ranges from her brother sexually harassing employees to her wanting to hire an all black staff to pose as slaves and serve at her brothers wedding reception. There seems to be much more here than one comment 30 years ago. Oh, and by the way, the woman bringing the lawsuit is white.” – Rainee Calhoun Sinroll
