Five BG children injured in Highway 54 wreck

A two-vehicle accident Thursday sent seven Bowling Green residents, including five children under the age of eight, to the hospital.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop C, reported that the wreck occured at 5:50 p.m. on Aug. 15 on Hwy. 54, west of Curryville at Pike County Road 459.

According to the MSHP reports, the accident occurred when Gregory L. Luebrecht, 54, of Curryville, was travelling westbound on the highway. Reports further indicate Luebrecht was attempting to turn onto PCR 459 in his 1997 Dodge Ram pickup when a 1996 Ford Explorer, driven by 29-year-old Johnny Chapman, of Bowling Green, collided with the rear of the truck.

Luebrecht was not injured in the accident. Six of those involved in the crash were wearing seat belts or in safety devices, the MSHP said. Chapman passengers Lavonte J. Heck and Jenny M. Heck-Crockett were not.

Those injured included driver Johnny L. Chapman, and passengers Amber N. Heck, 28, Jason C. Chapman, 5, Lavonte J. Heck, 5, Austin D. Heck-Crockett, 6, Dustin L. Heck-Crockett, 4, and Jenny M. Heck-Crockett, 7. They were all transported to Pike County Memorial Hospital by Pike County Ambulance.
