  • Park Board selects projects, expenditures for upcoming year

    The City’s Park Board advisory committee gathered last Wednesday for its regular meeting and to select projects for the upcoming fiscal year. Chairman Steve Chismarich called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Other members present were Charlene Willis, Kim Holmes, Trisha Turner, and Craig Burnett.   • Successful fair in the books as 2014 event ends

    Congratulations to the 2014 Little Mr. and Miss Pike County Fair - Tristan Flynn and Addison Potter. Tristan is the son of Kenda and Sean Flynn, of Bowling Green. Addison is the daughter of Candice Cunningham-Rutherford, of Middletown. Throughout the week, the Little Mr. and Miss held several responsibilities, including handing out trophies and making appearances at special events.

    Another successful Pike County Fair is in the books as this year’s event came to a close Saturday. The fair, which ran Tuesday through Saturday of last week, is comparable to years passed, said fair board president Vernon Korte. According to Korte, the grand total of revenue for the 2014 fair appears to be slightly down from last year. “2013 was an exceptional year,” Korte countered, explaining the slight decrease

    Jate McCollum, a member of the Peppy Circle 4-H club, received the Reserve Grand Champion title in his class at the Audrain County 4-H and Youth Fair over the weekend. McCollum showed in the Open Crossbreed class.     Jack Graney, a baseball legend and former Bowling Green resident, was recently memorialized by his addition to the St. Thomas Wall of Fame. His family, many of which are originally from the Pike County area, was fortunate enough to be honored in a surprise celebration.
