Mayor makes first Poppy Day donation

Mayor Don Hunter made the first donation to this year’s Buddy Poppy fundraiser. The special day, which will be hosted by the Bowling Green VFW Post 5553, will take place next Friday, Nov. 7. The $5 donation was accepted by Poppy Day Chairman Bob Page.

  • Vietnam memorial to be hosted by DAR

    A 50th anniversary Vietnam commemorative service will be held at the Veterans Wall at the Courthouse Square at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23. The event is sponsored by the Bowling Green DAR and the public is invited to attend. After the program the regular DAR meeting will commence at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church. The public is also invited to the October meeting.

  • Republicans hold meeting, hear from Rep. Hansen

    The Republicans of Pike County club met at the Faith Baptist Church in Louisiana on Oct. 2. After reciting the pledge of allegiance, led by president Gale Frolos, and a prayer led by state representative Jim Hansen, the group enjoyed a soup supper. The scheduled speaker, Chuck McNab was ill and unable to attend. He will reschedule. He did send a message encouraging everyone to remember to vote on Nov.

  • Cancer Memorial Park donates to area groups

    Pike County Health Department, Home Health and Hospice Administrator Chris Deeken accepts a donation from Cancer Memorial Park Foundation President Karen Daffron.

    The season for giving has begun a little early this year as the Cancer Memorial Park Foundation (CMPF) recently presented two $1,000 checks to area organizations. At this year’s Pike County Relay for Life on Sept. 27 CMPF President Karen Daffron presented the first check to the local organization.
