The Champ Clark Heritage Festival Car and Truck Show will be held at the Bowling Green courthouse square Saturday, Sept. 13 rain or shine. Registration will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Anyone wishing to drive their vehicle in the parade will need to be at the Bowling Green High School by 9:30 a.m. The car and truck show will have 24 different classes with multiple awards in each

  • McPike selected for baseball honor

    Kobe McPike, a BGHS freshman, was selected by the Mathews-Dickey Boys’ and Girls’ Club to represent STL Cardinals in the 2014 Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) World Series, Aug. 6 through 12. McPike’s first step was to go to Milwaukee, Wis. to play in the Mid-West Central Regional Tournament, July 25 through 28, hosted by the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.   • Honor Flight announces Mission 26 to Washington this week

    The morning of Aug. 28 will mark the 26th Mission of the Great River Honor Flight program and on its return will increase the number of local veterans who have flown to Washington D.C. for free to over 800. The trip will depart from Hannibal LaGrange University around 2 a.m. on Aug. 28.  The 33 Veterans representing WWII, Korea and Vietnam Wars and their Guardians will travel by Charter Bus

  • Highway 161 at Middletown to close as bridge work begins

    Weather permitting, beginning Monday, Aug. 4 at 7 a.m., MO 161 in Montgomery County will be closed to traffic up to 45 working days just west of Route BB in Middletown for bridge rehabilitation at the Coon Creek Bridge. Road closure signs will be in place notifying motorists of the work. Alternate routes of travel should be taken with a signed detour over MO 161, US 54 and MO 19.

  • City committee hears new roadway improvement plans

    The Bowling Green general committee gathered Monday evening for its regular monthly meeting and learned of plans to improve one of Bowling Green’s main thoroughfares. Chairman Kenda Flynn called the meeting to order at 5:34 p.m. All members were present as of roll call.     Jack Graney, a baseball legend and former Bowling Green resident, was recently memorialized by his addition to the St. Thomas Wall of Fame. His family, many of which are originally from the Pike County area, was fortunate enough to be honored in a surprise celebration.   • Legislators finalize Amendment 7 project list – Pike County to see $24.88 million pending Aug. 5 votes

    With a unanimous vote Wednesday during a regularly scheduled meeting in Jefferson City, the four-member Highway and Transportation Commission sent to the voters a list of projects that would be constructed using funds from Constitutional Amendment 7.
