After-school program at capacity

As the 2014-2015 year begins the Bowling Green 21st CCLC Y Afterschool program is bursting at the seams. There is a total enrollment of 120 students, which is full capacity, with a waiting list.  What a wonderful dilemma to be in.   • PLTC construction coming along – Administrators predict opening in April

    Masons from JDS Masonry of St. Charles are building walls for the diesel tech building expansion.

    Steel girders have been hung for the new main building at Pike Lincoln Technical Center (PLTC) in Eolia and masons are building walls for the second building in anticipation of a spring 2015 opening. The main center building burned to the ground in December 2011 in a still unsolved blaze that decimated the school but didn’t take its heart.   • New superintendent announces test improvements, policy updates

    The new superintendent of the Bowling Green R-I School District takes his job very seriously. Since moving up the ladder from BGHS principal last year, J.W. Brandt was able to get a perspective of the district that not all superintendents are able to before taking over. First on Brandt’s agenda after taking the helm was to improve the district’s standardized test scores and performance reviews, specifically the district’s MSIP rating.

  • Registration for St. Clement PSR, Confirmation classes

    Registration for PSR and Confirmation classes is in progress at St. Clement Catholic Church. PSR classes are for any student grades first through eighth that are attending the public schools. Confirmation classes are for all high school freshmen and sophomores.  Sign-up is also being offered to high school juniors and seniors for a post-Confirmation class. Mass schedules will be adjusted starting the weekend of Sept. 6 and 7 to accommodate

  • BGMS teacher receives MRTA grant

    Congratulations to Mrs. Becky Turner (pictured, center), who was recently awarded a $500 grant from the Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation (MRTF). Mrs. Turner was selected from more than 20 applicants from around the region for the grant. Also pictured with Turner are Debi Ingram, of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association, and Margaret Smith, of the MRTF board.

  • Youth Fair cattle show highlights young showmen

    The Pike County Youth Fair Cattle and Bucket Calf Show took place on Thursday, July 24.  The evening began with the bucket calf class followed by the breeding stock and completed with the steer show. The bucket calf class is judged mainly on the exhibitor’s knowledge and care of the animal.
