Times, MPA to host essay contest

Texting while driving is a problem. More than 100,000 crashes  year involve drivers who are texting, often causing life-changing injuries and deaths. Texting drivers are far more likely to be in an accident. Despite knowing the risks of texting while driving, 43 percent of teens admit to texting while driving.   • Lions receive check for test drive program

    The Bowling Green Lions Club is in sincere appreciation of all those area residents that participated in the test drive fundraiser earlier this year. Pictured above is Clayton Storch, of Storch Ford, presenting a check for $4,460 raised by the Ford “Drive for Your Community” fundraiser held in June. The funds will help with Lions Club projects, including eye glasses, scholarships, and more.

  • Relay for Life in two weeks

    Mark your calendars for Pike County Missouri’s Relay for Life on Sept. 27. There is still plenty of time to get luminaria forms in prior to the event for placement around the track (any forms turned in now will not be included in the program).  Forms may be picked up at several local banks, pharmacies, and Crossroads in Bowling Green, along with Pike County Memorial Hospital and Eastern Missouri Health

  • PCHD to offer flu vaccinations

    The Pike County Health Department is urging residents to protect themselves, as well as others this flu season by being proactive and getting vaccinated. Research has proven that the single best way to prevent the flu is through receiving a flu vaccine every year.   • PCHD to offer free vaccines

    The Pike County Health Department will be offering multiple free vaccination clinics during the month of August during our walk-in hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. These opportunities are for children 11 years old through 18 and college students ages 19 through 26.   • Area veteran looks for options after nursing home ends VA contract

    A local veteran is feeling the effects of a fairly new executive order signed earlier this year by the President which raises the wages of federal workers, causing many private nursing homes to abandon their contracts with the Veterans Administration (VA).
