Republicians hold meeting, discuss plans for Lincoln Day Dinner

Republicans of Pike County held their February meeting at the Faith Baptist Church in Louisiana. Following a carry-in meal, the meeting was called to order by President, Gale Frolos. The secretary’s report was read and the time for the Lincoln Day Dinner was changed to 6:30 p.m. The treasurer’s report was read and both reports were accepted.     Students in Pike County Schools are looking forward to the Pike County Science Fair to be held on Tuesday, March 10, at St. Clement School. For the past few weeks, students in grades Kindergarten through eighth grade have been working on science fair projects.     Missouri State Representative Robert Cornejo will be the keynote speaker at the 2015 Pike County Lincoln Day Dinner, Feb. 28.   • Dandridge among students to travel to Art Institute of Chicago

    Dustin Dandridge, junior history major from Frankford, was among a group of students to travel to Chicago as part of a history course at Culver-Stockton College. Students from Dr. Patrick Hotle’s “Twentieth Century Europe” class joined students from Dr. Scott Giltner’s “Historian’s Craft” class for a day trip to the Chicago Art Institute, Feb. 6.   • Fire Dept. to host lunch

    Frankford Volunteer Rural Fire Department will host a chili and vegetable soup lunch served with hot dogs, homemade desserts, tea and coffee in the Frankford Christian Church basement on Sunday, March 1, beginning at 11:30 a.m. A good-will offering with be accepted to help offset expenses.

  • Extension to offer private pesticide applicator training

    Private Pesticide Applicator Training will be offered on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Pike County Commissioner’s Room at the Courthouse in Bowling Green. Each training session will last approximately two hours. In order to obtain or renew private pesticide applicator certification, each individual must attend one training session and each farm must already own or purchase a Private Pesticide Applicator Training Manual.
