Mayor signs POW/MIA proclamation

Mayor of the City of Bowling Green, Don Hunter, signed a proclamation last week in honor of POW/MIA Day.   • BG FFA members compete at State Fair

    Bowling Green FFA members had a successful 2014 Missouri State Fair.  The fair took place from Aug. 7 through 17. This year was the 113th anniversary of the Missouri State Fair.  In 1952 FFA acquired its own division at the fair and there have been thousands of youth participating ever since.   • VFW, Auxiliary to host POW/MIA ceremony

    The Bowling Green VFW Post #5553 and Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting a POW/MIA and flag retirement ceremony at the post home, 505 VFW Road, in honor POW/MIA Recognition Day. The event will be held this Friday, Sept. 19 at 5:30 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend the cremony in honor of America’s POW/MIAs abnd the retiring of flags no longer suitable for display. Refreshments will be served.

  • DAR members attend meeting

    Above are the Bowling Green DAR members who attended the District Meeting: Pam Williams, Diane Fuerst, Jane Quade, Lori Smith, and Snookie Flansburg.

    Members of the Bowling Green Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution traveled to Hannibal to participate in the district meeting on Sept. 12. DAR members from Kirksville, Hannibal, Macon, Moberly, Paris, Louisiana, Vandalia, Lancaster, Kahoka, and Memphis also attended. This annual meeting allows members to meet with local and state leaders to share ideas and learn about new projects in Missouri. Each year, Missouri DAR sponsors several scholarships

  • Fish Fry, Homecoming to be held Sept. 21

    The annual homecoming and fish fry will be held at the New Harmony Christian Church on Sunday, Sept. 21. The carry-in meal will begin at approximately 12:15 p.m., and everyone is invited to attend. A Fall Bible Study is beginning this week on the Book of Proverbs.     Texting while driving is a problem. More than 100,000 crashes  year involve drivers who are texting, often causing life-changing injuries and deaths. Texting drivers are far more likely to be in an accident. Despite knowing the risks of texting while driving, 43 percent of teens admit to texting while driving.
