Local musician requests votes for radio contest

Tyler Cannon, a 2010 graduate of Bowling Green High School and December 2013 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, is currently competing in a radio contest and needs Pike County’s help.   • McPike selected for baseball honor

    Kobe McPike, a BGHS freshman, was selected by the Mathews-Dickey Boys’ and Girls’ Club to represent STL Cardinals in the 2014 Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) World Series, Aug. 6 through 12. McPike’s first step was to go to Milwaukee, Wis. to play in the Mid-West Central Regional Tournament, July 25 through 28, hosted by the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.   • VFW, Ladies Auxiliary host fundraiser

    The Bowling Green VFW Post #5553 and Ladies Auxiliary hosted a fundraiser fish and hog fry Saturday, Aug. 23 to a crowd of many. Monies raised during Saturday’s event will benefit the VFW and Auxiliary’s many projects throughout the year, directly aiding local veterans, soldiers, and their families.   • Parks, Recreation department announces fall, winter events

    The City of Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department recently released its Fall/Winter activities guide for 2014-2015. The guide provides a comprehensive listing of various activities which will be undertaken in the coming months.   • PCHD to offer free vaccines

    The Pike County Health Department will be offering multiple free vaccination clinics during the month of August during our walk-in hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. These opportunities are for children 11 years old through 18 and college students ages 19 through 26.   • Youth Fair cattle show highlights young showmen

    The Pike County Youth Fair Cattle and Bucket Calf Show took place on Thursday, July 24.  The evening began with the bucket calf class followed by the breeding stock and completed with the steer show. The bucket calf class is judged mainly on the exhibitor’s knowledge and care of the animal.     The goat show was held on Tuesday, July 22. Champion Dairy Doe was shown by Evan Scherder.  The Reserve Champion Dairy Doe was exhibited by Evan Scherder.
