Republicians hold meeting, discuss plans for Lincoln Day Dinner

Republicans of Pike County held their February meeting at the Faith Baptist Church in Louisiana. Following a carry-in meal, the meeting was called to order by President, Gale Frolos. The secretary’s report was read and the time for the Lincoln Day Dinner was changed to 6:30 p.m. The treasurer’s report was read and both reports were accepted.   • School board accepts lawn care bid, applauds elementary student

    Lawn care and the philosophical thoughts of a third grader were among topics discussed during Tuesday’s Bowling Green R-1 School District Board of Education meeting.     Missouri State Representative Robert Cornejo will be the keynote speaker at the 2015 Pike County Lincoln Day Dinner, Feb. 28.     Several members of the local retired school personnel chapter attended the annual MRTA Legislative Day in Jefferson City on Wednesday, Feb. 18. Many retired educators from all across Missouri attended, to meet and discuss educational issues with their state representatives and senators.   • Fire Dept. to host lunch

    Frankford Volunteer Rural Fire Department will host a chili and vegetable soup lunch served with hot dogs, homemade desserts, tea and coffee in the Frankford Christian Church basement on Sunday, March 1, beginning at 11:30 a.m. A good-will offering with be accepted to help offset expenses.

  • Share the Harvest deer helps feed hungry

    According to the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), nearly 4,000 deer hunters donated more than 212,300 pounds of venison from the 2014 Missouri deer harvest to the state’s Share the Harvest program. Share the Harvest is administered by the Conservation Federation of Missouri (CFM) and MDC to help feed hungry Missourians.
