YMCA program updates

NFL Punt, Pass, Kick Aug. 21, 5:30-7:30 p.m. National competition for boys and girls ages 6 to 15. Kids compete in punting, passing, and place kicking. Top qualifiers move on to regionals. Free to all! Held at the soccer field at Wallace memorial Park in Louisiana.   • BGHS track lights installed

    New lights at the Bowling Green High School football stadium and track were recently installed. The project, completed last week, is one of many improvements coming to BGHS this year. The weight room project is expected to be finished this month.

  • YMCA salutes Barbie “Grand Slam Gamm”

    Barbie Gamm is a Pike County player with a purpose. A clutch leader for the Twin Pike Family YMCA, Barbie has been instructing aerobics classes for the Y the last 14 years. A lifetime resident of Pike County she has also served on the YMCA Board of Directors and is currently serving on the Pike County Fair Board as well as the Pike County and Bowling Green Khoury League Boards.

  • Gymkhana kicks off Pike County Fair

    Imagine the excitement when Tanner Elder received the call from Zach Pennington with the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) that he had been nominated by an individual in the golf industry to represent the United States on Team USA against Team Europe and Team Canada in the 2014 IJGT Euro Cup. The IJGT Panel reviewed Tanner’s golf history: he is a two-time All-State golfer, including a second and eighth place

  • Bobcats selected for All-Star baseball game

    Two recently-graduated Bobcat baseball players were honorably selected to play in the second annual Missouri vs. Illinois All-Star Baseball Game. Event organizers Kevin and Aaron Peters recently announced the rosters for the 2014 Missouri vs. Illinois All-Star Baseball Game, sponsored by Benson Financial Group, Shottenkirk Toyota, and Refreshment Services Pepsi. The game is scheduled for Saturday, July 12 at 7 p.m. (rain date July 13 at 7 p.m.) at Clemens

  • Visitors’ Bureau hosts fishing derby

    Twenty-eight anglers and their families enjoyed a day of fishing at the Bowling Green Welcome Park on Sunday, May 5.  The Bowling Green Convention and Visitors’ Bureau sponsored the derby and awarded the following prizes:  Reese Turner, age 6, for the smallest fish at three inches; Cody Pogue, age 10, for the most fish at 24; and Michael Efnor, age 5, for the largest fish at ten and one-half inches.
