Amy Patterson – My Thoughts

“Sometimes I wish I lived in an airstream…just like a gypsy”

I think everyone, at some point in their life, has felt this way. Some are plagued with these thoughts more than others, some will deny that they’ve ever had the idea cross their mind. Those people, the latter, are big fat liars–Sorry for being pointed.

Why do we take vacations? Why do people play sports and take up other hobbies? As humans, we need to “escape” every now and then. Even if your escape is diving head first into a book for 20 minutes or pulling weeds, it’s important for our mental health to relax.

When I think of the “real world,” I picture cubicles, honking horns, and pantsuits. Maybe Bowling Green isn’t exactly like that, but just because our town is small (remember Mayberry?) doesn’t mean everything’s always peaches.

Ask anyone – I should be the poster child for road rage. This, unfortunately, has not been subject to change with my transition to small-town life.

Someone going too slow (less than about 57 mph) down 161? I hate that person. Until I realize it’s one of the FruitFlys (inside joke for the family), then I don’t hate them and am slightly embarassed by my hot-head tendencies.

Regardless of how “simple” and “peaceful” this small town life is, everyone needs to unplug sometimes and  relax. Even you. Yes, you. Go take a nap or something.

“Love and best dishes, from my kitchen to your’s…”

Quick rant on this one: I love Paula Deen. I will stand by the good ol’ southern lady until my dying day.

Everyone (except me) has experienced an instance in which their mouth has written a check their butt can’t cash. Everyone has had that moment when the words flow out of their mouth and immediately think “What did I just say?!”.

I don’t have a racist bone in my body – I judge people of all colors equally, and frequently (a joke, kind of). Let’s just make that clear…

I am not saying that what Mrs. Paula has allegedly said or done is right or just, or true, but why should we throw her in the fire? Let me toss a “glass houses” reference out there.

From what I’ve heard, the Food Network has already severed ties with her. Boo! Do her opinions make her any lesser of a chef, or any less entertaining? I don’t think so.

I’m sure there are some of you that would disagree with me. It sounds like something my dad would say, but whatever: If I’m not told I’m wrong at least once a week, I’m not trying hard enough.

Here’s my point(s): Chill when and while you can, as often as you can. And cut my Paula Deen a break. Cut yourself a break, too; you shouldn’t take life too seriously… This is supposed to be fun, remember?

PS: Do you have “thoughts” you’d like me to touch on? This is my one outlet for all the craziness under this faux-blonde hair, but I’m always open to suggestions. Email me at or give me a call at 573-324-2222.
