On Wednesday, Feb. 13, a special ecumenical Ash Wednesday worship service will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary, located at 7th and South Carolina.
The community is invited to attend. The service is jointly sponsored by Bethel AME Church , Calvary Episcopal Church, Centenary United Methodist Church, Elmwood Presbyterian Church, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and First Presbyterian Church.
Earlier in the day Centenary is offering an opportunity for the community to receive the mark of ashes so that the symbol will be seen by others throughout the day. From 7 a.m. until 8 a.m., the Rev. Jeanne Webdell of Centenary United Methodist Church will be at Hardees restaurant, 3313 Georgia Street in Louisiana.
She will then be available in the church sanctuary, located at 7th & South Carolina Streets, from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. This will be a moment of quiet reflection when this sacred rite is observed. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a time of reflection, of penitence, of forgiveness and grace.
