Bowling Green High School Alumni Board is busy making plans for their annual banquet to be held on Saturday, Oct. 12 at James A. Wilson gym. Featured speaker this year will be Glen Bailey. Glen graduated from BGHS in 1963 and served as class president his senior year. Glen then attended the University of Missouri and graduated from the school of agriculture in 1967. After graduation he married his wife, Carolyn and then served his country in the Vietnam War. Glen returned to Pike County, raised his family, farmed, and has been a prominent area banker for the Perry State Bank which is now Hannibal National Bank.
Entertainment will be David Stover on the French horn and John Parcell playing the trumpet. David and John live in the Kansas City area and perform regularly with a group.
The Alumni Board will be honoring the late 2nd Lt. David S. Deters and the late Sgt. Louis Andrew Niemeyer Jr. Both of these men were graduates of BGHS. David was a graduate of BGHS in 1963 and served as student body president his senior year. Louis was a member of the 1965 graduating class. Both men are buried in the St. Clement Cemetery.
Perry Mudd Smith was a member of the class of 1965. Perry’s son-in-law, Erik Olson, is chief of staff for Rep. Ron Kind (D) Wisconsin. Rep. Kind’s office with the help of Erik has provided the alumni board with two flags which were walked for a day around the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. Two Vietnam Veterans provided this service. Also, Rep. Kind’s office has provided two certificates to go with the flags in honor of David and Louis. The flags had certificates will be presented to the families at the banquet.
