The Pike Community Care Partnership is coming together once again to host its annual “Back 2 School Fair.”
Pike County students are invited to the event for free gifts and necessary information before the start of the school year.
This year’s back to school fair will be held at the Pike County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. 12 p.m. Sat., Aug. 9.
2014 marks the sixth year of the annual event that Pike County has hosted.
Last year, an estimated 1000 people attended the fair hosted by the Pike County Care Partnership. More than 615 children from 10 Pike County schools registered at the event.
Besides receiving backpacks filled with age-appropriate school supplies, there will also be nearly two dozen booths with resource information on hand for the participants to visit. Each of these booths will also be handing out additional school supplies.
Once again, event sponsors will have stylists on-site to give free, professional haircuts. Approximately 125 haircuts are given each year.
In addition, this year’s fair will feature a petting zoo, Air Evac display, Trailerman Trailer train, as well as police men and firefighters.
Every person attending can enjoy a hotdog, chips, and bottled water served by the Pike County Retired Teachers Association.
Last year, supplies and backpacks were purchased for the fair as a cost of approximately $9,500. Funding is provided by donations from local businesses and organizations and through grants.
The fair is open to all Pike County students and is not income-based.
